Maximising the space in your rental property is important if you want to attract and retain a good tenant.  There are plenty of steps you can take to visually maximise the space you have.

Keep ceiling and wall colours in neutral tones.  White or grey are ideal colours and will not date as quickly as other colours.

If you room does not benefit from much height, furnish it with low level sofas, beds and other furniture and avoid low hanging lighting, replacing it with recessed down lighters or side lamps.  This will help to give the illusion of height in the room.

In open plan areas, create divides of the space using storage units or a breakfast bar to give the impression of more usable space.

Allow lots of natural light to come into the property.  Avoid window coverings that block natural light i.e. curtains and use blinds instead.

As with the walls, ensure you use neutral flooring like cream carpets and rugs, white washed floors or laminates.
