homeless

A new bill has been published which aims to alter the Housing Act 1996 to reduce homelessness amongst private tenants.  If this bill is passed, private tenants will be accepted as homeless by local councils by showing a notice of eviction, rather than waiting for eviction by force.

The bill was presented by Bob Blackman Tory MP Communities and Local Government Select Committee member.  It has been said that the committee were unhappy with the treatment tenants threatened with homelessness received.

In the event that the bill is passed the definition of ‘threatened with homelessness’ will increase from 28 days to 56 days.
